Ring around your toilet? Alkaline deposits cause those nasty rings. Depending on the hardness of your water, pour one or two cups of white vinegar into the toilet once a month to eliminate the problem.   [guest]

Brown stains that are hard to remove may be iron oxide (rust), either from the water itself, or your fittings. This can be removed using rust remover solution (ask your hardware store).   [guest]

Pumice stone: Be very careful if you use a pumice stone. If you remove the shiny enamel you will make the problem even worse. Scratched or scored porcelain will become stained even faster. As a last resort, using a pumice stone might work right in the very bottom of the toilet, below the the water level. If you use a pumice stone, make sure to keep it wet to reduce the scratching.   [guest]

Avoidance of stains in the first place is the best solution. Frequent cleaning keeps the surface shiny and smooth, which naturally prevents build-up of dirt.   [guest]

Toilet disinfectant: Mix 50 ml  of eucalyptus oil with a litre of water. That's it - you can store it as you would a normal disinfectant.   kellyjones00 (593)
